Who should apply? Young Adults between the ages of 18 and 35 who can articulate lived experiences in and/or demonstrated understanding of the following areas: LGBTQIA2S+ communities, BIPOC & Latinx communities, disabled peoples experiences, varying education levels, and/or varying socioeconomic status. This may be a great opportunity for folks with F1 OPT Visa status, in particular the ELCA International Leaders Program. Fellows do not need to have a previously established connection to the ELCA - we welcome all who come to us from outside of this church! A required component of this program is the participation in faith-based programming, which is rooted in the ELCA understanding of grace and vocation.

What will this fellow be doing? For nine months starting in January 2024, working virtually with the Lutherans Restoring Creation leadership team, activities will include the following.  Hour-long mentorship meetings will occur weekly with the Director of Lutherans Restoring Creation for clarity and creative, constructive, collaborative, challenge-tending.  This is a Full-Time, 9-month position and offers all the benefits of the Young Adult Vocational Fellowship Program (see details here - https://www.elca.church/vocational-fellowship/program-benefits ). The fellow will be paid every other week at a rate of $18-24/hour.

Fellowship Activities:

  • Reaching out to those who have been making their creation care goals public via LRC's Actions Speak Loudly! program, following up to get reports back, and sharing that information with the broader LRC community to inspire others
  • Connecting to existing members of the LRC network, encouraging them to work with their church to make and implement an Creation Care Covenant and action plan outlining what concrete steps they will take to care for creation
  • Providing resources and facilitating connections to plant seeds for new grassroots creation care networks within ELCA ministries, especially utilizing theological tools for reflection and spiritual strengthening
  • Offering support to traditionally marginalized groups, and lower income congregations, specifically, and interacting with ELCA anti-racism efforts to more robustly address connected issues of climate change and racism
  • Creating and distributing info about fossil fuel divestment and responsible investing to synod leaders, green teams, and council finance volunteers
  • Collaborating with the growing churchwide Creation Care Network of the ELCA via key leaders in Advocacy, Stewardship, and Lutheran Disaster Response to ensure congregational learnings are shared throughout the broader network
  • Updating and managing a database with networking contacts and key leader information to help all stay connected into the future and ensure the ongoing impact of this work
